Help Provide a Basic Utility Vehicle (BUV) for a Cacao Farm in Peru
This Giving Tuesday, you have the opportunity to provide a Basic Utility Vehicle (BUV) for a Cacao Farm in Peru!

Midwest Mission is partnering with DriveBUV (Indianapolis, IN) to send BUVs to under-resourced farming communities. The first request came from a Cacao Farm in Peru. Midwest Mission's partner, Food For The Poor, has been walking alongside this farm for more than a year, helping strengthen productivity and long-term sustainability through technical support, logistics, and essential supplies. They’re nearing the end of the project, and one of the final needs is dependable farm equipment.
Together, we can provide this needed resource to empower producers, families, and communities in Peru!

What is a BUV?
A BUV is a Basic Utility Vehicle — “a simple, rugged, low-cost, low-weight vehicle that is easy to operate, maintain, and repair.”

It is a cross between a 4x4 pickup truck and a tractor — fit for traveling and carrying goods on bumpy, rural roads, but also with the capability of pulling a planter and operating in a field.

Why BUVs?
BUVs are relatively inexpensive, are built with common equipment that is easy to maintain and repair, and are multi-functional for a variety of opportunities.
BUVs…
-
Reduce Poverty
With transportation comes opportunity — opportunity to sell crops, get a job, or even start a business with transportation! -
Promote Agricultural Success
As a tractor-like vehicle, BUVs are multi-functional machineries that allow for rural communities to plant and harvest crops, and then transport those crops to local markets -
Increase Health Care and Education Access
Transportation is one of the biggest keys to alleviating poverty and promoting health. If a community has a BUV, their world is opened up — a woman in labor could be transported to a clinic when no ambulance could reach her; children living high in the mountains on dangerous, rural roads can have a safer passage to school; the opportunities are endless!

Where will they go?
When we heard about the opportunity with our friends at Drive BUV based out of Indiana, we were very excited, and shared about the vehicle with our partner, Food For The Poor.

Food For The Poor was equally as excited, and knew they would be great resources for their communities that need income generating opportunities. And, they would also be great for Agriculture schools — much like the one you helped send a tractor to last Giving Tuesday!

The first place we will ship the BUVs is Peru, then there are more requests for BUVs that we look forward to fulfilling in Honduras.

These vehicles provide transportation, carry heavy loads, and operate in multiple facets, making them a perfect item for any rural community or school!
